Well, a good portion of my personal library contains publications from the 1800s and early 1900s, and it confirms today’s generation ought to thank God for the Revolutionary war and the people’s fight to end slavery, particularly on American soil.

Unfortunately, slavery is once again showing its ugly head as witnessed under the Democrat Party Leadership encouraging and assisting in human trafficking at our southern border.

So my comment that south would have to industrialize to compete with other cotton growing nations. You aren’t going to do that with slave labor it they modernized/industrialized cotton industry.

Ironically they made sure the slavery ending amendments to the Constitution had caveats where legal slavery could still happen…especially via the Peonage Laws.

Yes the Americans of the 1700s and 1800s suffered from that most human of frailties…they had high ideals of freedom and equality…and constantly fell far short, backslid, or flat out stopped striving to be better.

That’s why the experiment is never finished…the journey never complete.

And that’s what makes our history so interesting and should drive us all to do better.
