His actions fed lies to the CDC, which was trying to get a handle on this pandemic for the whole country.
There is a big difference between that and someone taking an inappropriate vacation that affected nothing.
If Cruz was responsible for thousands of nursing home deaths, I can see people from other states being concerned.

Last time Bastrop completely burned down no one came to help, but then a rich neighborhod lost power due to a small brush fire and all the coprorations sent their fully branded semi trucks to help.
