I’ve been told rich people don’t get and stay rich by spending money they don’t have to.

I think the best thing to do would be to treat all income the same.

Re: appreciated wealth, I could see a wealth tax on significant huge accumulated wealth. Like over $100M.

The right claims over and over that Soros got rich by bankrupting some country…I forget the exact story, but the right does in fact take about his money all the time. At least in my experience here at this forum.

Yes he does. His entire fortune is dependent on government funded highway system, the government regulated air travel system, and low wage, federally subsidized work force.

No, he doesn’t. Jeff Bezos (or any of the others), not Amazon.

Side note - it’s funny that Trump isn’t one of the wealthiest Americans…

Fair enough - how much does amazon pay in taxes?

No idea and not the topic of the stolen information.

Amazon’s winning streak in its battle against the U.S. tax system remains intact. This week the retail giant announced record-breaking sales and income for 2020, and an effective federal income tax rate of just 9.4 percent, less than half the statutory corporate tax of 21 percent.

It’s impossible to talk about the richest man in the world without taking about the vehicle that made him that.

And yet I’m doing it.

And it’s an incomplete conversation that does not consider the totality of the situation.

I understand.

You probably do. And for some reason your investment in protecting the status quo will continue to direct you to ignore the absurdity that the company that made Bezo the wealthiest man in the world, who uses vast amounts of our government funded infrastructure, including the air and road ways, and federally subsidized low wage workers pays less than half the tax rate than someone making $50,000, while Bezo himself sometimes pays zero.

It’s intellectually dishonest not to consider the source of his wealth in the context of this conversation, but such is the state of things, so deep is the need to protect the uber wealthy, even if it is to your own detriment.

so be it.

You need to punish success.

Another one line, baseless claim made with no supporting evidence.

Impose your fee fees on somebody else. Take. Punish.

“HE HAS TOO MUCH! TAKE IT!”

I asked for their 529s to be made available in pennies so they could dive in it like Scrooge McDuck, but sadly, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will not grant my request.

Have you paid $6.9M in taxes in your whole life put together?

Such an elegant rebuttal…it’s a wonder I don’t change my mind…

I’m not seeking fees. I’m seeking to treat all income the same. The plumber’s labor to be treated the same as capital gains.

You are seeking to punish with authoritarian force.
