These donations are most certainly earmarked for a candidate - they’re ear-marked for whoever ends up as the nominee against her.

If I call my Senator and tell him that I will donate to his opponent if he doesn’t vote the way I want hin to, that’s not breaking the law.

If I call my Senator and tell him that I will tell all my friends to donate to his opponent if he doesn’t vote the way I want him to, that’s not against the law.

If I call my Senator and tell him that I will start a website to collect donations for his opponent if he doesn’t vote the way I want him to, that’s still not against the law.

My cousin went law school in his 40’s. He was a country music writer (he wrote Country Club that Travis Tritt turned into a hit) before and Allen Jackson began his career as his demo performer. He specialized in contract law and scooped up a bunch of country musicians. Jackson was his first client. It worked out well for him.

Funny thing was my whole intent was to show how 1 hypocritical elected official was crying because of this. And can see one poster on this forum doing same thing and saying it illegal and will not admit he is wrong as par the course.
