I’m hearing contradictory information. Are the N95 type masks necessary or is a regular surgical mask enough for medical personnel?

I have heard (but can’t confirm) that this virus is so small it would be better to put the N95 masks on the sick patients and the medical staff wear the regular surgical masks.

The place it gets tricky is when they have to intubate a patient.
That procedure causes a lot of aerosolization.

I’ve done it.
So if there’s a mask shortage, everybody wear regular masks except for certain procedures. PPE is hazard driven.
Ya the government in China is from the golden days and seems to be going even more backwards than forward. They a have a million ethnic minority Uyghur’s locked in re-education camps.
The evil side of capitalism that allows western companies to still to use what basically amounts to slave labor in China.
When this crisis is over regardless of who is the President, I would love to see a bipartisan consensus among the politicians as well as the public to start scaling back manufacturing in China and brining some
Factories back home. Even if one didn’t pay much attention to it before maybe this crisis shed a light on the problem. It’s hard to believe 95% of our ingredients that goes in our prescription drugs come from China and the testing is a joke there compared to western standards.
