How do you avoid a total economic collapse that would result from locking the entire country down for six months or longer?

Where is the food, fuel, fiber, everything that has to be transported across the country to supply even basic needs going to come from? Who’s going to move it, process it, transport and deliver it?

50-80% are asymptomatic so no that can’t possibly be true since at least half and probably the vast majority of the infected won’t be showing symptoms so it will likely spread like wildfire for weeks before you even find any new cases.

You do realize that anyone can be infected five minutes after they are tested don’t you?

We can’t test 200,000,000 people daily, weekly, or monthly to ensure they remain disease free. No country on earth has that kind of capacity.

When however they go bankrupt and are forced to shutdown things will collapse quickly.

At any given time we have about a 30-90 day supply of food in storage, after that things come apart awfully quickly.

All of those “essential workers” are at risk every day of becoming infected themselves, sick themselves, and risk spreading it to everyone they come in contact with so his theory holds no water.

There is no possible way to keep everyone in the country under quarantine awaiting testing and test results. To do so would ensure a complete economic collapse.

We can handle that with just good hygiene, social distancing and surface cleaning and disinfecting.

I predict an explosion in UV disinfecting systems marketed to businesses and maybe even homes.

We also have a very good handle on the most vulnerable populations and we can isolate and protect them easily.

An R0 of over 1 meaning an infected person is infecting more than one other person gets to be an exponential problem that gets out of hand very quickly.

The Ro was originally guesstimated somewhere between 2-3. Most put it in the 3 area. Researchers recently put it up to 5.7 which I find to be ridiculous. They came up with that useing statistics from Wuhan China. But 5.7? That’s like smallpox.

No not accurately. I’m pretty sure calculated assuming no immunity. So a 2.3 of something we have no immunity towards would be much worse than the 2.3 seasonal flu.

We seem overrun with people who are so young the 80’s and 90’s seem like ancient history.

Pandemics are natural cullings. We can fight them but really all we can do is try to limit the damage, we cannot prevent it.

One way or another we have to get back to work and live with the consequences or things will be far, far worse due to the cure being worse than the disease.

I agree. And if the Ro of this thing is anywhere near 5+ then no amount of social distancing is going to defeat this. It will find a way to most people. I’m pretty sure it’s not, only because I am fairly certain I would have got it by now. But we really don’t know yet.
