Yeah they had that gearbox as an option as well.

On the Gallardo it was standard and the gated manual was optional for most of its production. Eventually they dropped the traditional manual because no one was buying it.

On the Murcielago the traditional manual was the standard option for a few years with the SMG being optional. But once the special editions started coming out the SMG became the only gearbox option.

Kind of a shame, since a traditional manual is my
favorite transmission and what I always go for.

From what people say the Aventador has the best implementation of a SMG box ever designed, since it apparently actually works at low speeds. Lambo’s engineers stated they went with a SMG for that car over the more common DCT because they liked the way it shifted. It felt more raw and it was much more harsh than a DCT, which are insanely smooth by comparison.

More internal combustion cars as a percentage catch fire then EVs.

Very true.

Gasoline fires are easier to fight than lithium fires though.

It’ll become a moot point once the chemicals needed to effectively fight lithium fires become more common in fire departments.

Now that is true. I’ll grant you that.

It’s pretty rare in either case.

Now if I was driving a 1983 C10 with a Quadrajunk Carburetor and a fuel cutoff switch prone to failure id actually be reasonably worried about vehicle fires.

But for the most part modern cars don’t burn too often thanks to yaw and pitch sensors designed to shut the fuel pump off the second any extreme deviation from level travel is detected and if a wreck occurs.

When a vehicle fire occurs normally it’s the result of a bypassed fuel shut off switch. Which is more common than people think since people tend to be cheap and it’s much cheaper to bypass if it fails than replace it. Just hardwire the pump to the ignition switch. I’ve seen it a million times. And I always tell the owners if you wreck chances are your car is going to burn you to a crisp. But they don’t care because they are cheap and short sighted.

Thank goodness I don’t know how to do that.

Lol it’s one of the first things I check for when I buy an older used vehicle. They’ll either wire the fuel pump directly to the ignition or they’ll wire it to a toggle switch in the dash.

Either way it’s a really stupid way to get your car running again. When either the yaw/pitch sensor or fuel pump shutoff fails they fail deadly. So the computer won’t turn on the pump when you turn the key. So they bypass it just to get it back on the road.

Not just sitting still and not running they don’t.

A lofty goal by 2035. The part that I think won’t happen is their goal for 2026. For 35% of all cars sold having zero emissions. No way by 2026.

Fewer fires/100,000 vehicles, but more problematic.

“Whilst the occurrence is lower for EVs, when an EV does catch fire, the consequences can be very problematic. The mixture of chemicals in the battery can prove extremely volatile and difficult to extinguish. Several EV fires have destroyed garages and neighboring vehicles and fire departments have had to be educated on how to deal with EVs specifically. EV fires can continue to reignite for days after initially being extinguished. It doesn’t help that the occurrence of EV fires can be unpredictable, with research conducted by IDTechEx suggesting that a third of EV fires occur when the vehicle is stationary, parked, and not charging.”

EV Fires: Less Common But More Problematic? | IDTechEx Research Article.

One EV took out a whole ship.

Imagine if it had been one of those giant ocean ferries instead, with multiple hundreds of passengers and crew and not just a tiny crew of a cargo ship?

Lunar powered.

Electric cars will come when/if the technical advances come to make them preferable to owning an ICE car. Improved ranges and charging time immediately come to mind. When that is achieved, the needed infrastructure will rapidly follow.
Push it before time and government schemes will result in changes in government instead of changes in cars.

does the cow have to wear a life jacket?

Awesome pic :+1:

That is a cool pic!

Electric car sales are quite strong. Seems like for many, they are desirable already.

Not for me they won’t work. Not for a while. Can’t even consider them.

They are fine for two car families who own a home in which they can charge the EV. They are not so fine for someone who has one car for both local and long distance travel or for someone who lives in an apartment.

same here. But they work well for lots of people in my town.
