Cannot one also argue that it’s tyrannical to FORCE someone to do something for nine months of their life that they have no desire to do?

It’s not like someone can simply say to the pregnant woman that they would be happy to take the baby out of her belly and put it in their belly.

Hmm, ok let’s weigh nine months of pregnancy against ending the life of the baby. And if we are talking after viability, why does it need to be killed if the woman no longer wants to be pregnant, it can be removed and kept alive instead.

I’m not arguing in favor of abortion. The essence of my posts and the OP pertains to who or what (if it is the Constitution) to define the unborn child as a PERSON protected by the Constitution. Even with my statements I admit that they may be inaccurate as I legal and Constitutional issues are not my forte.

You must have failed biology. The fetus is not potential human life, it IS human life. It’s potential is to become a child, an adolescent, and adult, none of which it will achieve if it is killed in the womb.

You are confused about the word potential too. The unfertilized ova has the potential for life in the same manner that a match has the potential to produce fire. What happens after the flame is produced depends on your actions … you can snuff it out (abort it) or you can nurture it and it will grow.

It’s a war huh? No contest when a woman is fighting against a baby.

Not war.

One is carrying a potential human life. The other wholly dependent on that specific woman until viability outside of the womb.

The life is already in existence. If it wasn’t, there would be no need to kill it to keep it from being born.

And again with the viability thing. That is a completely arbitrary and specious argument. But it does go to disprove your claim of “potential life.” One cannot be viable if one is not living.

Rape is by far the most complicated part of the abortion debate.

Speaking as a man who can never go through that experience (impregnation by rape) I don’t feel qualified to make to that decision for a rape victim. It should be left up to them.

And that is where the room for compromise in the conversation exists. There are some choices to be made in life where there is no good decision, just less bad.

I would say it does. From a biological standpoint human life is human life.

Put a dead 55 year old adult next to an alive 55 year old adult. Both have human DNA. However what is the difference?

One of them no longer has consciousness and will never get it back. When call them dead. Even though their skin cells may still change or blood may still be flowing. They are not alive

How is that material to killing living human life? Life is not the tissue or DNA, life is the unique intangible being residing within that tissue an of that DNA that we call a human.
