We are a very unimpressive generation.

Doesn’t Starbucks offer tuition assistance through the online program of a particular university?

Maybe the Tik Tok poster in the original post can use it to earn an MBA.

For a lot of places you can be an “engineering tech” until you pass the PE.

I don’t think so.

And of those who fit that description, some have some overly indulgent parents.

I have a second cousin who, last I heard, lived in NoCal but may be living in Washington now. This kid was pampered growing up in not just private school, but French language immersion private school.

He earned a degree in something like Sports Marketing only to discover that’s a very competitive field.

I’m not even sure he has a job at Starbucks now, hey, that’s better than nothing. His indulgent parents want him to “get a graduate degree in something more marketable “, which is total nonsense.

This kid is outgoing & speaks several languages. He could easily get real estate broker licensure or work as a travel agent or flight attendant, but his donors would rather have a kept man.

Oh well. There are some young people doing the best they can, I think most are, really.

Very unimpressive, although that’s going to be key when our generation is raising its grandchildren.

About 1 in 3 are as efficient as the word gets.

Biology is “feel-good virtue-signalling lefty ass woke stupid horsecrap”? Congratulations, that’s probably the stupidest thing to be posted on the internet today. Not just this forum, the entire Internet.

i didnt say that so you must be congratulating yourself.

but you could suppose i was referring to “majors” other than the dude in op article but that would require your not to be in a hurry to post stupid ■■■■ huh?

On the other hand, some people can somehow graduate law school and end up vice president of the United States despite the fact they’re dumber than Forest Gump.

I don’t care WHAT people choose to get a degree in as long as I don’t have to pay for it.

It all depends on who they sleep with along the way.

All these posts and I’m not sure I understand the premise of the thread. B A and B S degrees don’t automatically open desired doors, and we all need to start somewhere, usually at the bottom.

Working in a coffee shop is better than being 100% unemployed and will fill a résumé while the applicant searches for those jobs he really wants.

That’s so two generations ago

My nephew was interested in computer software and hardware as a kid. After high school, he took some technical courses on computers and was noticed and hired for his abilities. He has been working on and managing computer systems for large companies since then. My brother gave him the money saved for college and he used it to buy a house about 15 years ago (which of course has appreciated significantly since then ). Whether he would have “broadened his horizons” in college I can’t say, but there is always the opportunity to do that outside of college if one wishes.
Economically, I’m pretty sure he made the right decision. Being better at doing something that is needed more than most people is likely better job security than a degree.
