Maybe we could save us taxpayers money by eliminating a year or two of high school. I don’t use algebra, history, or biology in my job so those were unnecessary for me. A plumber or a mechanic doesn’t need to know geography or how to diagram a sentence.

I myself majored in mathematics. At no point did I need or desire any other class, but colleges are a for-profit business, after all.

Marketed properly a BS in biology can be very rewarding. This is a tough degree to earn.

To the poster that worked full time and earned degree part time. I did this also and so did my wife who I met while studying.

Another clue that student debt forgiveness is tax money lottery. If you don’t have the money for tuition… work for it.

A BS/BA is Biology is almost as useless as a BA in Psychology.

Yes, the hard sciences, biology, chemistry, physics, etc., generally require an advanced degree to find good employment right out of college.

He shoulda majored in Civil or Mechanical Engineering where not even a Masters is needed to find a good job as long as one becomes Registered as a PE.

and the PE may not even be necessary. depends on the company or if contracting etc

For a lot of places you can be an “engineering tech” until you pass the PE.

And of those who fit that description, some have some overly indulgent parents.

I have a second cousin who, last I heard, lived in NoCal but may be living in Washington now. This kid was pampered growing up in not just private school, but French language immersion private school.

He earned a degree in something like Sports Marketing only to discover that’s a very competitive field.

I’m not even sure he has a job at Starbucks now, hey, that’s better than nothing. His indulgent parents want him to “get a graduate degree in something more marketable “, which is total nonsense.

This kid is outgoing & speaks several languages. He could easily get real estate broker licensure or work as a travel agent or flight attendant, but his donors would rather have a kept man.

Oh well. There are some young people doing the best they can, I think most are, really.
