An unarmed officer giving traffic citations wouldn’t have the authority to “catch” the murderer. And if they knew the person was a murderer, they would call it in instead of approaching the vehicle. How many toll collectors were killed last year for stopping a murderer?

With the current way they are structured yes. Once again you are failing to see the argument being made. The point is to make traffic stops routine and with less escalation, to save officer lives and reform how we approach crime.

That’s just stupid. The bad guy sitting in the car that just robbed a store, raped someone, murdered someone, or who has warrants out for them will know the unarmed cop is about to ID them and will shot them down like dogs in the street.
They will also have no idea for sure whether one of your unarmed targets is approaching them or an armed cop especially in the dark when most such stops and arrests occur.
Toll collectors are not issuing tickets or running your information hence they are not usually targeted.
Your unarmed cops would be.
You’re not making any sense. Why would you pull over in the first place if you thought you were going to be caught? Who said anything about “running their information”. Issue the citation with their name and license plate. That’s it. Traffic enforcers wouldn’t be “criminal searchers” anymore than toll collectors.
They would if cars and their lights, and uniforms were substantially different.
What’s the traffic enforcer going to do with the ID other than to write down the information for a citation? You guys again are failing to look at the context and scope change of this new enforcement and continually blurry it in the window of routine stops as they are now
