Pre trial detention has been the way of things for many years now. @zantax: just because you have recently been made aware of it doesn’t change that, nor does it make it unconstitutional.

Unless one is wealthy, the American criminal justice system sucks. Moreover, this is not a new brand of oppression leveled at people you align with politically. It is simply the way it is.

Lol people sit in the county jail for weeks waiting for formal arraignment. Bail is intentionally put just beyond their reach financially, usually ten thousand cash or bond. Then at the formal arraignment the judge just released them on their own recognizance.

These January 6th dudes sat in the bing for a couple days and started acting like Tim Robbins in Shawshank Redemption.
