Is anyone claiming that Putin is defending democracy?
Ukraine and Russia are similarly corrupt and undemocratic from what I can see.
The sweet endorphin rush is too irresistibubble!

Orban has tried to work closely with Putin in the past and will not allow shipments of military equipment through Hungary.
Ally? Orban has publicly condemned Putin’s invasion of Ukraine and agrees with sanctions against Russia as a result. Nor would Putin look favorably with Hungary’s membership in NATO. Hungary also continues to help Ukrainian refugees.
Hardly the most stalwart opponent of Russia. Ally? No.

The big difference is that Russia has troops in Ukraine trying to take the place over, and the reverse….no.

I don’t know what you’re talking about but if you have a point, make it. I don’t do research on demand.
You made a clame that Orban publicly condemned the invasion. What’s the quote?

Oh. No. You look it up if you don’t think he has. Good luck.
Ah ok. I never said he didn’t.
He has condemned the invasion but not Putin. It’s quite the line he is treading. You know being a member of the eu while simultaneously being depended on Russia for trade.

Yes. It’s not easy being a small country under the shadow of a giant. I think I implied that condition in my post. Poland, on the other hand, seems to have taken the “up yours Russia” approach.

We weren’t invaded, but we were in a ‘war’ of sorts.

And BTW, the parties he banned were linked to the country mowing Ukrainians down and targeting shelters and civilians.

Looks like the Guardian is halfway honest. They admit that “Democratic” countries have been limiting free speech to fight Covid too. Don’t Democrats like to save people from “disinformation” and block “hate speech”.
No, there is nothing that unique about Orban other that he doesn’t follow the NYTs narrative on social justice. They brand him authoritarian and therefore the usual apes like CNN and WashPo jump in line.

Their history with Russia is bitter and goes back centuries.

1956 is far enough. That alone will keep them from ever being an ally of Russia.
