Thanks that was a good read, I don’t hear so much on the agriculture and the tree front in terms of solutions, they seem very plausible.

Who told you climate/eco experts pushed for plastic bags?
Major grocery chains Safeway and Kroger replaced their paper bags with plastic ones. This saved the companies a significant amount of money because plastic bags were much less expensive than paper bags .

That is according to the inventor’s son…and that bag was pretty much the reusable bags we have today. The single use bags, which came later, were never intended to be a greener alternative. It was only when they were cheaper, were they pushed, by the stores.
I do not recall single use bags ever being promoted as “better for the planet”, nor environmentalists advising their use.

Bit of a differing take on plastic bags, good read.

Why don’t we just make our bags from hemp?
Hemp has so many uses it’s not even funny.

Let’s not go down this rabbit hole. Take my word for it, I was there at the time and that was the reason given. It was stated that these pines were being decimated to make brown paper bags and they could be saved by using plastic. I read your article and it was Kroger that was the main grocery chain store in my area and who had one of the biggest mouths. I believe you that it was for profit but…like so many other things, that’s not the message being blurted out at the time. The basis for the decision was to save the environment.

I love those people that are bitching about plastic bags while drinking water out of plastic bottle
