The real value in a military is invested in human capital. NY would need a military and I don’t see that happening.

My theory is that we would need to mostly do the way the Soviet split up was handled. Military personnel deployed there return to their home states. Military assets on that territory are taken by the state in question. Truly mobile stuff (like naval vessels) are split up fairly equitably.
It would actually be worth paying NY to leave just to get rid of them.
Send NJ with them.

Like most states. California is one the most extreme examples. It’s super conservative outside of cities like San Diego, LA, and San Francisco.
Generally speaking, urban populations lean left. Rural populations lean right. Suburban is what everyone fights over because they really could go either way. They’re basically bisexual but for politics instead of sexuality.
