Socialism Poland 1950-1980

In James A. Michener’s book “POLAND” published 1983 he wrote in the last Chapter “X” Bukowski vs. Buk what should be required reading for all regarding why Social Democracy doesn’t work and will never work anywhere. I will not post here the great truths so wonderfully illustrated in Michener’s book.
What I will do, is challenge the Socialist to review what happened in Poland from 1950-1980.

What you and others should do is learn the difference between communism socialism and democratic socialism.

What a waste of a thread. If it’s so important, why not quote the passages?

Yeah… like the difference between bacon, pork belly, and salt-cured pork.

Let’s get it right.

Bingo! :+1: I have always regarded Communism and socialism as kissing cousins.

Poland was not a social democracy. It was a communist totalitarian state.

Apples to anvils. They are two different things.

Neither are acceptable to me.

Well yes. They are both leftist movements.

However they are extremely different in key ways that must be mentioned for accuracy.

And democratic socialism only seems democratic to the majority who take the wealth of the minority.

And in the end, when the leaders have to force it upon the people, they use economic fascist techniques to do so. The nations in which the workers actually own the means of production are non existent… even though centgov may say the people own it. Only centgov seems to have the authority to speak for the people.

Those who try to make the distinctions in reality are disingenuous or indoctrinated or uneducated. Their theories are irrelevant once their ideologies are implemented.

I understand the difference and heartily reject both.

Poland was hardly social democratic. SocDems retain markets and capitalist structure.

The point is to build socialism, not immediately implement a borderless, classless society.

No thanks. Capitalism all the way.:+1:

seems to work in Denmark, Sweeden, Norway, Great Britain, Iceland, France, Spian etc.

And the United States.

Indoctrinated.

When those countries have to pay for the totality of their national defense, it wont look like it’s working then. They have to rely on this nation… which still has a healthy dose of capitalism.

Kinda like slowly infect so that no one can see what they lost.

Lets see the proof.

Michener was a pretty hardcore liberal lol.

The places communists have taken over have been underdeveloped, wartorn backwaters. The idea of the vanguard is to remain in power until the population is literate, sophisticated, and sufficient in capital/logistics.
Essentially they tried to skip capitalism with collectivized development.

First, let’s see the proof of the assertion that those countries are doing well and that socialism is the cause… and that the comparison with the US is valid.

That assertion was made first.
