Not only is the broken glass outside the house, but the piece of broken muntin is as well. And the broken glass still in the frame is hanging outside the plane of the frame rather than into the house. Mr. forensics, what’s your conclusion?

Looking at what I could find from the previous post with the best of multiple pictures in the link this is what I see:

Blue Arrow: What some might think as the missing muntin (horizontal divider) doesn’t appear to be that to me. The coloring is normal wood tone and not the painted white of the remaining muntins.

Green Arrows: These appear to be more the size and shape of the missing muntin and note they are on the inside of the house.

Red Arrows: They show glass fragments on both the inside and outside of the door. Which seems kind of odd. I don’t see there the glass is “hanging outside the plane of the frame rather than into the house”. The glass remaining in the frame remains in the plane of the frame.

What I found weird is the break in the glass itself was not the normal splintering you would find with regular glass where it breaks into shards from the point of impact. It appears more as the development of large numbers of fine cracks (sorry forget the technical term for that) radiating out from the center. To me this imply some sort of laminated glass used either for thermal, solar, or security properties. Yes, even “security” laminated glass can be broken, but does provide some entry delay.

Given the non-standard glass obviously used in the construction, it is not hard to see that it may have taken multiple strikes to get the hammer through the “glass”. But because the window didn’t shatter like standard glass it may have made a fairly small penetration hole. The head of the hammer through the window, pulling it back out would easily deposit glass on the outside. He may have done this repeatedly to get a hole big enough to (I assume) reach the lock on the door to open it.

It was the reaction of pulling my hand back out that shattered the window slicing my wrist. I got twelve stitches to prove it. If it happened to me with my hand it seems even more likely with something like a hammer.

Looking at the photo make me more certain it wasn’t a break in…… what it actually was? Who knows.

But who here honestly thinks a guy in his underwear claimed through that opening in the glass?
