There’s a difference between doing work and doing work to get re-elected.

Don’t know about resentment, preventing Presidential tyranny, and protecting tradition was what I’ve heard.
Reagan wanted to end Presidential term limits.
Term limits force new blood, and ideas into congress, which could be beneficial.
Please, what new ideas? Tax cuts or government spending. The ideas are not exactly new.

True. I guess that’s not a bad argument, but I’d still rather leave it up to the voters. It’s not like nobody deserves to be re-elected and even re-elected multiple times, right ?

I don’t understand where tyranny comes into play. To me, that’s not a good faith argument because a president still has to face trial by electorate.
New blood is good I guess, but I don’t want new blood solely for the sake of having new blood; not if the old blood is still preferred by their constituents. And new blood isn’t always better.

I support term limits.
I do not. If one is good at their job, they should not be forced to quit.
I am for age limits. Once one is past 80…no more running for office.
Get the money out of the legislative and election process, and reign in gerrymandering, and this democratic republic would work much better.
True, and term limits would cover it.
Why the limit of 2 terms for president? Don’t presidents have to face elections as well?

i know, right. It’s dumb.
On the theme of electoral reform I would recommend preferential voting for the House of Reps and presidential elections.
A more radical reform that would help the current situation in the Senate where virtually nothing gets done would be to increase the number of senators for each state to 6 in conjunction with the introduction of proportional representation. This would allow members of other parties a chance to be elected. 3 senators per state to be elected at each election.
It certainly is inconsistent.

I would settle for 76 or 80.
The idea is to serve…not needed if that elderly.

In the end here’s what I see.
AOC might be the single biggest argument against term limits. A 20 something year old bar tender beats a long established congresscritter…
Sadly she’s a complete nitwit. She’s potentially the next Biden…a dc lifer getting rich off of special interest $$$
here’s where I m at.
The definition of idiocy is doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results.
Look at Pelosi…Congress since the ‘80’s…filthy rich personally…her home district is a sewer with homeless people pooping on the streets and stores closing because they can’t afford all the shoplifting…California is losing population while she eats her expensive ice cream.
How is America better off because of people like Pelosi, Schumer, Biden, and you can toss in McConnell and Graham…
I recognize that there my be some who do a good job that we would lose…but two terms in the senate is 12 years to effect that agenda…4 terms in the house is 8…
We don’t need these people pretending to be leaders royalty suckling off the taxpayers and special interests forever folks.

I see it differently. AOC is one of the biggest arguments for term limits. A person who spent over six figures for a college degree, who then graduates but can’t get a real job after spending all that money so has to get a job as a bartender (not something one needs a degree for). Hits the lottery by becoming a member of Congress and now thinks she’s got all the answers to everything.

The longer they stay, the more powerful they become. Then they forget they suppose to work for us. Not for themselves.

Of all the people in congress to choose from, you choose her as an example? Pelosi, Mitch or grassly ?
You must dislike Madison cawthorn too.
I like young folks to take the lead and be represented.

Here’s what I said about Grassly earlier in this thread:
Guys pathetic, over 40 ■■■■■■■ years as a senator amassing a net worth of about 5 million dollars and at nearly 90 can’t let that power go. TERM LIMITS ANYONE!

Iowa voters are free to vote Grassley out, are they not ?
