The proposed budget bill calls for increased funding for immigration courts to speed up processing. It does not specify exact numbers of additional judges, leaving that for the Department of Justice.
There’s something about 2022 right there on the link. I stand corrected on the date. Nothing in that link rebukes the information I provided about the political bias of money being spent, the lack of broadband, the billions for a handful of charging stations, or the recently much discussed needed upgrades to or air traffic control systems.
You win, I stand corrected on the date.
That said Biden remains the worst president our lifetimes and probably history and it’s taking significant governing to clean up his mess. He let millions of illegals into the country and that crisis will never fully be resolved.
And that would actually be part of a solution. What is not a solution is vilifying legal migrants who came here seeking asylum and are doing everything by the book. You can say no, you can say yes, but it’s not right to call them “illegals” when they are here legally.
They serve a purpose in our society. Most are hard working and believe in the American dream, they save for the future, they support their families. Most have faith and attend mass. These people are not the problem and snatching folks off the street who have done nothing wrong goes against the very fabric of this nation, which has and will always be a melting pot.
I just don’t get the animosity these folks have to endure. They flee a bad situation, come here and face nastiness instead of a better life. That’s a rough life. And it’s not as if we don’t have work for them, or room, it is a big country and we are fully employed with lots of openings.
Why not embrace folks who want to work hard, pay taxes, and have a better life? Why not welcome people who love your country? There are always going to be some idiots waving Mexican flags, but that shouldn’t harden ones heart to folks who are here for the right reasons.
as a person who is unable or unwilling to return to their home country, and cannot obtain protection in that country, due to past persecution or a well-founded fear of being persecuted in the future “on account of race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion.”
It was NEVER supposed to include economic migrants or so-called climate migrants as the Harris/Biden Administration included.
The previous sheriff let them do things that they shouldn’t have been allowed to do.
But I diverge from a lot of conservatives by saying that they should still be grandfathered under the law, even if exercise of the law at the time was polluted by the people in charge. If they applied for asylum properly, let them get heard out.
Most likely the majority of the specious claims will get rejected. Then they can get booted. But until then, grandfather them in.
And given that the budget proposal increases funding for immigration courts, it looks like that will be the paradigm for them.
What percentage of these millions and millions of people from nearly 200 different countries, who paid the cartels to get to the US border, knowingly or even unknowingly presented false asylum claims?
This idea that it is the obligation of the United States to fund a system that can expeditiously adjudicate EVERYONE in world who wants to make an asylum claim is complete nonsense. There’s probably 3 to 4 billion people who would jump at the opportunity to get into the US to present an asylum claim. Exactly how much would it cost the US Taxpayer to fund this system?
That is certainly an argument. However, they were never accepted here on a permanent basis and had no reason to believe they would be allowed to move here permanently…unless someone lied to,them.
In any case, the Supreme Court has ruled this is a Presidential decision and that has been made.
This is a false narrative. The notion that Conservatives hate all immigrants and want zero immigration is nonsense. The left’s idea of immigration is to have functionally open borders and to capriciously and arbitrarily flood the country with millions and millions of people. Whereas Conservatives believe in merit-based immigration very similar to what they do in Denmark and Norway. Furthermore, I always find it humorous when those on the Left talk favorably about the so-called “American Dream” when talking about the impoverished, largely uneducated, unskilled, non-English speaking migrants but sing a different tune when it comes to the American people:
There is a right way and a wrong way to become a citizen.
Libs just want to throw the border open and let millions of illegals waltz in. Are those people wading thru the Rio Grande or sprinting across some Texas rancher’s property trying to evade the border patrol the best and brightest? Over the last four years the came here after giving money to and with the permission of the Me Ivan drug cartels. Why do we want these people in the counter again?
God help this country if the stupid democrats ever assume a position of power again. They’ll flood the southern border with another 15 million illegals … like the just did.
Then write a bill, close off asylum seekers, do whatever works. But it is not fair or moral to have a system in place, have people get in line and go through the system as intended, and then call them “illegal”. Nor is it moral to have someone wait for years for a ruling only to be snatched up by ICE without warning, when they are law abiding and tax paying.
It is a monstrous problem, having all of these people waiting, most of whom are decent human beings seeking a better life, just like our ancestors. But becoming a monster and violating their rights doesn’t make it any better. Is the purpose of all of this cruelty to make the US so vile that folks won’t want to come here? Then why would we want to live in a cruel and vicious nation? We cannot fight monsters without becoming monsters, apparently.
The way the previous administration allowed the system to accept “asylum” claims was not how it was intended to be used.
Having said that, I am an adherent to the principle that if you did something allowed by law at the time, and then if the law changes to make what you did illegal, the change should not be applied retroactively.
Biden let the flood of asylees occur. They’re here now. Process them as such. (The latest budget proposal expands spending on this.) I suspect most will be rejected, and then they will have to leave. But process them nonetheless. And don’t let it happen again.
If they haven’t been approved for entry, they don’t belong here yet. I’m with you about the human element of the matter, and I don’t want to see the run-of-the-mill illegal immigrants getting targeted. And by and large they’re not. It’s the ones who have subsequent run-ins with the law who are targeted. No question there have been some who have been swept up along with targeted illegals. That’s gonna happen. Old saying: “Sleep with dogs, wake up with fleas.” I’m thinking of the raid on the underground nightclub in Colorado, for example. Media tried to create “innocent illegals” who were not the primary targets of sex traffickers and drug and weapons dealers. But they were hanging out with those guys, at the place where those illicit activities were happening.
I posted earlier in this thread my amazing immigration plan. I submit that it’s NOT cruel and vicious.
I know of no one who is being snatched up who was not either here illegally or on a temporary parole. In other words, no one who had reason to believe they were on a legitimate path to gaining permanent residency.
IMO, the longer you wait to process them, the more difficult it becomes for them.
