I am more of a Popper guy

" In this formulation, I do not imply, for instance, that we should always suppress the utterance of intolerant philosophies; as long as we can counter them by rational argument and keep them in check by public opinion, suppression would certainly be unwise. But we should claim the right to suppress them if necessary even by force; for it may easily turn out that they are not prepared to meet us on the level of rational argument, but begin by denouncing all argument; they may forbid their followers to listen to rational argument, because it is deceptive, and teach them to answer arguments by the use of their fists or pistols."

You’re the one claiming it and you’re part of the group. You are claiming “black people”, which you claim to be a part of. Now you want to be an individual?

The poverty rates for minorities was the lowest it’s ever been in 2019. For white people it didn’t change? You see me whining about white people being oppressed because their poverty rate was higher than Asians? Must be racism right?

When you look at anything, you only want to control for race. Race doesn’t make you poor. Dropping out of school does. Having children outside of a stable relationship does. Not working does. Being a dullard does.

How are you oppressed? What opportunities do you not have in this country because of the color your skin?

Straight Marcuse. Apparently they debated. Popper was a Hegelian. Birds of a feather.

Teaching values is indoctrination.

No. Teaching beliefs is indoctrination. Teaching math is education.

Sure you do.

Agreed. And now some of them are taking it back. Cat out indeed.

It’s not a paradox. It’s a strategy. Crushing dissent is nothing new.

No? Strange.

Yes it was. It seems you want the state to dictate the terms of the game and make all the measurements. The field is most assuredly not level now, it’s not tilted the way TV Man tells you it is.

That’s all the state can do. That’s equality.

Not possible. There is no “catching up”. Generations are different. We each live in our own time.

Catch up to what? White people?

There is a huge difference between reminding (educating) people about the past and pretending that the situation of the past is still in effect.

No … It was because he was so openly hypocritical regarding the religious beliefs (the American brand of Islam) on which he based his conscience to not serve in the military.

By the way, I had a friend in college who was granted CO status, yet served (as a Medic) and who died in Vietnam. Being against war and killing is (was) not a blanket exception to military service.

Maybe not at the stoke of a pen, but surely after 57 years.

Perhaps you could give an example or two to demonstrate how oppressed you are to help us understand.

If teach values equals indoctrination, than not all indoctrination is bad.

What of Evolution, the moon landing, global earth, vaccines and autism.

One mans education, is another mans indoctrination.

I’m going to assume you mean CRT, CT. I don’t follow the conversation, outside of what little I’ve read here.

“Crushing dissent” is part of it, sure. But it’s a paradox. In order to have a society that is tolerant, you’d have to be intolerant of those who would spread intolerance.

I wouldn’t go that far.

Who’s favor is it tilted in now?

The state can do more.

Sure, the majority.

I didn’t say it is. What do you think the difference between “good” and “bad” is?

What of them? Are you trying to induce a behavior or sharing information? Are you making value judgments?

Don’t assume. Any agenda.

I will.

Who do you think?

Not morally. Why should it? Can, but may it?

In what world does the minority “catch up” to the majority?

Who gave you the idea that it was?

Agreed it’s just ‘never forget’ usually only covers fascism of the axis in WW2, slavery, Jim Crowe, and the civil rights movement in America. There is a plethora of other events throughout history that people not only forgets but probably have no clue about ever happened. Mao and Stalin are good examples.

Imho students should get a broader study of Mao and Stalin to show what happens when a country lurches to far left as well. We are upset of slavery before the American civil war which we should be, but few know there is more slavery ‘estimate 40 million’ being practiced in 2021 around the world that’s hardily a blip of the discussion. It’s also a little odd that our biggest trading partner happens to have a million minorities looked in concentration camps while our businesses doing business with China turn a blind eye, and then give money to rights groups in the west.

Sounds like systemic racism to me. I guess I was wrong about saying it no longer exists.
