I agree. Never gonna happen. But 13 trillion is a lot of money to add to an already grossly bloated budget.

I hope you’re right. But I believe them when they say they will vote for it.

Financial reparations are not a solution and the bill will not pass.

Not sure what you are trying to argue with me for.

You do realize that not every Democrat wants the same things. Just like not all Republicans want the same thing. Neither party is completely homogeneous.

No argument from me on that.

Can you imagine if the bill passed and repreatations were actually paid in 40 acres of land and a mule?

Seriously though the administration of such a bill passing would be almost impossible.

Reparations were paid by the death of hundreds of thousands of lives…ending slavery. In 1964 laws were enacted that paid money to those needing a helping hand. Since then, trillions have been paid. All that happened was to worsen an existing situation and make a ā€œhelping handā€, into a way of life that has more hurt the population it was intended to help. This ridiculous demand today, is one of the dumbest things I’ve ever heard and hope…will ever hear again.

To what?

Think of it as the countless votes in congress to abolish the Affordable Care Act by republicans because they knew Obama would veto it.

What a stupid question. Read the OP.

I get that you think your posts somehow stimulate debate and incisive but mate its not.

Sure they have.

And let me ask you an honest question.

Generations of blacks descended from slaves have had their ability to acquire wealth severely hindered in this country…it was systematic.

Do you honestly believe that does not have effects that can linger even until today?

Not saying shell out $13 trillion…but do you honestly believe each individual in this world is born into a vacuum?

I thought so. You think there’s a ā€œsolutionā€ and don’t even know what the problem is. It’s not your place to decide what their solution is. Check your privilege.

What are you saying shell out then?

I could get behind something like every black person born in the US before 1964 pays half their income tax rate for the rest of their lives.

I’m not laying out any solution…just trying to find out if people even see this as an issue.

If we can’t even agree on the issues…then what comes next is kind of moot.

Predictable conservative response. Tax cuts fix everything!

Let’s not put more resources to education, job training, affordable housing, medical care…just cut their taxes.

You just laid out the issue, didn’t you?

Great post!

Yes, cut their taxes. That’s what government is for, raising and lowering taxes.

More this, more that. You’ve Ā© been doing that for decades. Get out of the way. They don’t need anymore of your ā€œhelpā€.

But I have no idea if people agree.

Many have this notion that everyone is a completely free will agent and that their success is in no ways tied to the situation they were born into.

Tied to if they don’t change it, which is admittedly very difficult.

Slavery is over. Jim Crow remnants likely exist. Half taxes if born here before 1964.

We’re not going back to Eden to try to stop the apple.

Giving people lump sums of money does nothing for them. Hand up, not out.
