People have been murdering people since people existed, that isn’t changing any time soon. Before guns existed it was the rule of strength, guns leveled the playing field and that’s a good thing, especially for the weak.

I wasn’t really asking about need, just the technical possibility of finding patterns that lead up to mass murder.

If it’s possible, people with means will eventually choose to use that technology.

Pattern? Mass murderers don’t often buy enough guns to establish a pattern.

Sounds more like a back door gun registry to be held by woke business executives instead of woke government. Of course if Idon’t use my card for the purchase the financial firms won’t be able to track it.

The purchase code only identifies the category of the item purchased, it does not identify the details of the item. Even if they created a code for every product (which would be nearly impossible) it would not identify the serial number.

I’m just recognizing what’s technically possible. This kind of profiling is inevitable because ignoring patterns before mass murder will become a choice.

What would a potential target (like the Synagogue) do with the information that 482 (say) people who have bought two or more guns live with a five mile (again, say) of their facility?

But it’s inevitable. Next shooting when they pull up the guy’s digital history and see how obviously crazy he is in hindsight, and someone will ask why nobody is using this readily available information.

Every time this happens, people will become less comfortable with incompetence against a repeating pattern.

So, everyone who buys a gun would automatically be placed on a watch list of potential mass murderers? Does that sound like America, or does it sound like China or North Korea?

Uh huh. Except americans, where guns are easy to get, murder each other way more frequently than in countries where guns are harder to get.
