A bunch of national parks out west (like Mt. Rainier for eg.) have had to close because no one is there to plow the roads of the heavy snow.

A Facebook post said that Obama shut down the government in 2013 to force Obamacare. There are a couple of key differences between then and today.

First, leading Republicans, including Ryan, noted that Obamacare largely would move forward even if some elements were defunded. In that sense, Obama was not fighting to “force” Obamacare, because he didn’t need to.

Second, in 2013, two issues, Obamacare and the debt ceiling, were on the table. In 2018, funding for the wall stands alone. In 2013, a compromise on the debt ceiling cleared the way to reopen the government.

There is also a legal difference. In 2013, Obamacare was already law. Funding for the wall is not.

The Republicans were throwing a temper tantrum because the ACA passed, and they needed a boogeyman to rile their base up with to try and reclaim more power in the 2014 midterms.

You remember that right? Obamacare?!?! Ooga Booga Booga! The GOP’s favorite thing to hate on to snooker their base for power. And when given power, their attempts to repeal the ACA went over as well as a wet fart in Church.

The GOP fully own the shutdown of 2013. They fully own the shutdown of 2018/2019. Feel free to post an actual shutdown that is owned by Democrats. I can think of at least one off the top of my head. 2013 ain’t it!

He should take the farmer’s welfare and pay for his wall - this being a national emergency and all.

And they are true patriots so won’t mind losing their livelihoods for the wall.

I’ve even seen some say that they’re willing to suffer for the sake of the country.

Which would make sense if a trade war were an effective tool to resolve the issues. But it’s not, so farmers and others are suffering for nothing positive. It’s stupid.
