Why can’t they? France and the UK have nukes and if they are having this much difficulty with Ukraine who doesn’t even rank in the top 30 militaries how can they expect to beat NATO even without the U.S.

Maybe…interesting conversation for sure…

But I think people are taking for granted the conditions that might allow for our removal from NATO are in place because we HAVE BEEN in NATO…

Not sure the world looks the same without us in NATO.

A place where the people of Libya still have a life and a govt that took care of them.

The ones who were in a civil war and about to be gassed by their terrorist dictator? Again, I’m always reminded of the fact that you didn’t know Libya was in a civil war. You thought NATO was just like “Let’s bomb them! Woohoo!”.

Sure, but I don’t think it’s accurate to say NATO dragged us into those conflicts. If we didn’t want to go, we wouldn’t have. We are NATO.

Europeans were demanding that we do something in Kosovo…when they could have done it themselves without NATO involvement.

Also remember this comment…why have this state of art military if we aren’t going to use it. Who said those words?

European states have roughly 10 times the economic strength and four times the population of Russia.

They collectively spend four times as much as Moscow on armed forces. NATO was created to counter the Soviet Union after WW2. The Soviet Union collapsed at the end of 1991 they never recovered fully as can be seen in the struggle with Ukraine.

As Obama said they are a lot of free riders in NATO. This is great if you are one of the free riders not so great for U.S. taxpayers. My whole life I have heard from democrats we need to cut defense spending which I agree with being in NATO isn’t going to do that they are protected by U.S. taxpayer military umbrella. Pick social programs or policeman of the world.

I’m pretty sure Qaddafi never used chemical weapons.

He did try to hide a cache and one cache I believe was looted or at least left unguarded.

But I don’t recall he ever used them.

More than that Qaddafi gave up his WMD program, that invasion signaled to the rest of the worlds tyrants give up WMD’s get attacked.

I remember thinking that at the time.

And Libya was indeed Obama leading from behind. Europe wanted the US in there and he went along with it.
