The Guardian had the timeframe incorrect (it should be week ending 12/30, not 12/23). They were reporting on data from the American Academy of Pediatrics, who get their data from the states. The data in the AAP is -

325,340 child COVID-19 cases were reported the past week from 12/23/21-12/30/21 (7,565,416 to 7,890,756) and children represented 17.7% (325,340/1,837,910) of the weekly reported cases

During the week ending 12/30 there was an average of 347,000 cases a day

Yes, the number children hospitalized with COVID is way up, but the statistics misleadingly fail to distinguish between those hospitalized with COVID and those hospitalized from COVID.

“Someone is in a car accident, they go to the emergency room, they test positive for COVID while they’re there. They’re not there being treated for COVID.”–NY Gov. Hochul

It is likely that infected hospital staff are contributing the number of cases in hospitals. The push to enforce vaccine mandates means that COVID-positive vaccinated workers are being forced to return to work even when uninfected unvaccinated workers are available.

The article mentions the problems at CHI St. Joseph East in Kentucky, which is part the state’s vaccine-mandate program. The hospital vaccine mandates are ending freedom and increasing the risk to patients. Science!

The statistics about ventilators are almost certainly based on the Delta variant or earlier variants, which Omicron has recently displaced. Using obsolete statistics in a common problem.

These fee fee outbursts are why female progs shouldn’t be judges or justices.

Gorsuch needs to hire (or fire) staff so they can provide the Judge with accurate info. “Hundreds of Thousands” of flu deaths? The CDC days otherwise Judge.

At this point the credibility of the court can certainly be questioned doncha think?

Credibility of any institution should be subject to questioning. From its inception.

That’s pretty funny especially given what Scalia wrote in an actual opinion about the end of all moral legislation….

That too was pure fee fees and his were hurt.

The Texas statute undeniably seeks to further the belief of its citizens that certain forms of sexual behavior are “immoral and unacceptable,” Bowers, supra, at 196–the same interest furthered by criminal laws against fornication, bigamy, adultery, adult incest, bestiality, and obscenity. Bowers held that this was a legitimate state interest. The Court today reaches the opposite conclusion. The Texas statute, it says, “furthers no legitimate state interest which can justify its intrusion into the personal and private life of the individual,” ante, at 18 (emphasis addded). The Court embraces instead Justice Stevens’ declaration in his Bowers dissent, that “the fact that the governing majority in a State has traditionally viewed a particular practice as immoral is not a sufficient reason for upholding a law prohibiting the practice,” ante, at 17. This effectively decrees the end of all morals legislation. If, as the Court asserts, the promotion of majoritarian sexual morality is not even a legitimate state interest, none of the above-mentioned laws can survive rational-basis review.

there were not 325,000 NEW cases of covid among children. the statement is false

WHO does not.

They should not.

You libs need to coordinate better.

Do you understand it?

I didn’t care for Scalia.

When you start with a small number, it doesn’t take much for cases to “multiply” or to “increase dramatically”. Yet even after that dramatic increase, the number of cases is still small. :man_shrugging:

Statistics can be used to make any argument, depending on how you couch them.

Well, to a lib, anyway.

Incorrect ≠ lying. Does it make a big difference that there were 325,000 covid cases in children on the week ending 12/30 vs 12/23?

will they put the penalty box in their chambers?

I do and I did. I may disagree with him but as a jurist he was up there with the best.

I was responding to a liberal’s opinion.

If you have a counter position i am all eyes

I don’t think so. He’s not your ally.
