Stalin was brutal to Ukraine in the 1930s.
Had Hitler moderated his occupation policies, he might very well have won the war against Russia. The Nazis were first seen as liberators, but then it turned out that the new boss was the same as the old boss.
A murderous, genocidal tyrant.
You’re right if it wasn’t for the reich’s dumb xenophobia and regarding slavs as second rate people at best they would have had plenty of Ukrainians ready to fight against the bolsheviks who just starved them to death during the Holodomor. A few German leaders wrote in their diaries how everywhere they went when going into Ukraine they where approached by hundreds yelling give us guns and ammo. Instead they only formed a few divisions then used the rest for death camp guards, wasted opportunity.
A good example where ideology and strategy go against each other and well we know what happened next.

It looks like historical revisionism is in full force.
Until recently all the Canadian truckers were labeled Nazi supporters if someone with a swastika was allegedly seen at a trucker protest. But now the party line has moved into “Nazi-shmazi” mode—any concerns about Hunka’s service in the SS are “Russian propaganda”.
The reality is that anyone who fought against the Soviet Union after the June 1941 invasion was on the same side as Hitler and was also fighting against the forces of Canada and other western allies. Anyone who was in the SS pledged allegiance to the Fuehrer. Hunka did both, and anyone who honors Hunka’s service in WW2 is effectively honoring the Waffen SS.
If Hunka had Canadian citizenship when he was fighting for the SS, he could have faced trial for treason in Canada at the end of the war.
Waffen SS isn’t a simple German Army infantry man, they swore their fealty to der furher.
