Can you imagine anyone but Trump saying- I stole top secret documents, hid them from authorities, lied about having them and was forced to return them 18 months later…and that wouldn’t be a crime?
Just can’t admit you were wrong…and I see still attempting to repeat those lies.
Was the raid to get the documents only contingent on if Trump were trying to sell them?

I don’t think that charges will be brought. I would be surprised if they are.
That is a separate issue from the DOJ doing the right thing to get a warrant to retrieve the property of the US government that Trump had no right or authority to possess.
All your article says is that his motive (maybe- no one knows) was purely ego. It doesn’t change the fact that he stole classified docs and then lied about it. From your article:

It wasn’t.
Trump had illegally in his possession material that he had no right to. The US government gave him 18 months to quietly return it without consequence.
When a false affidavit was filed saying that it all been returned then it became a matter that the only way to retrieve the material was through executing a search warrant.
Most people would feel embarrassment instead of victimhood.
But Trump isn’t most people.
