FreeandClear didn’t deny the the existence of the Hays code, nor did he deny the MPAA ratings system.

What he asked was “who ever prevented parents from taking their kids to an R rated movie, and which movie theater was ever punished for not doing so?”

Which is essentially what you are asking to be done to establishments that host adult-themed drag shows, which, if they were movies, would likely garner an R rating. If you think they would garner an NC17 (or old style X) rating, then you obviously have zero idea what is taking place at such drag shows. As adult themed as they are, these drag shows show far less than many R-rated movies show.

And since R means “minors must be accompanied by an adult”? That means while we might disagree with and look down on parents who take their kids to drag shows (or R-rated movie), legally there’s very little that can be done about it.

In this light, it’s nearly impossible to see your cite of the Hays Code as anything other than your desire to have it reinstated. The whole cite of the code had a definite “in the good old days, they didn’t let you make impure movies” vibe to it.

Right…the MPAA ratings system didn’t…and still doesn’t…have the force of law behind it. No parent can face jail time or fines for taking their kids to an R-rated movie, nor can theaters be legally sanctioned for allowing these kids in.

And let me tell you, there were a lot of R-rated movies whose advertising was geared towards minors as opposed to adults. Not so much nowadays, but back when I was growing up? Absolutely those films were advertised to reach minor children.
