Forcing through legislation unabated is one of the reasons the various american nations are at each other’s throats in the federal government. Even more ferocious, the urban and rural Cold War going on.
Consensus. That is the answer. And that is a power unique to the Senate, since they are supposed to be above the squabbles of the house.
Also, why is the Senate outsized for the Repubs? Every state gets two senators. No more, no less. The great compromise.
I get that feeling (as I feel that way about both a lot of people in both parties) but that’s smells an awful like what started happening during the French First Republic. Before too long there was an assembly line of mass murder in Paris, with everyone being fed into Madame La guillotine’s unsatisfiable stomach.
We have to control our baser instincts in these trying times. Otherwise we end up like France in 1793 and 1794. Don’t have to make the same mistakes they did.
And if Trump and his admin had given people extra points to obtain life saving medicine for being white, not one liberal here would disagree with my sentiment.
Yes he did. It’s an example of what I was referring to.
When the GOP has majority, and when they try to end the filibuster, just watch. MSM will plaster wall-to-wall coverage of the duplicity. (After all, the old speech from Schumer was in opposition to the GOP trying to end the filibuster.)
Cotton won’t have to re-read it. Schumer will be back on the floor giving the speech himself. But you’re right to expect a GOP majority in the Senate to be trying it again.
Of course, after 2022 and 2024 elections, GOP might very well have a filibuster-proof majority.
