im only addressing whether its constitutional to do so. whether he was aquitted or not is another thing.
personally id like to see congress use the 14th amendment to ban him from running for office again.
I am on the side of law and order. And that means evidence. And there have been multiple re-counts. Some requested and witnessed by the Trump campaign. Not one piece of evidence. End of story.

On August 1, 1876, the Senate rendered a majority vote against Belknap on all five articles. As each vote fell short of the necessary two-thirds, however, he won acquittal. Belknap was not prosecuted further; he died in 1890.
With 22 of the 25 acquittal voting Senators indicating the trial shouldn’t have been held to begin with. There was little to no question of his guilt. He was acquitted precisely because many in the senate felt it was unconstitutional to try him after he left office.
Decidedly odd precedent for those claiming it is constitutional to hang their hats on.

Did you miss why he was acquitted or what?

To be fair, recounts wouldn’t show the type of fraud being alleged.

I don’t want Trump to run.
It would be a nice check on the power of the current D leadership to realize there is a chance Trump could run.

People have done Unconstitutional things before. What you will not find is a conviction of anyone whom the Senate tried to impeach who was not currently in office…largely because at least some Senators thought a vote for conviction was unconstitutional or at least moot.
That is also the precedent.
Seems as though the Republicans don’t give a rat’s ass about the Constitution that they swore to uphold.
But you can bet your ass if a Democratic president pulled the same ■■■■ trump has pulled, they would have impeached & removed him from office…because that’s who they are…

I agree, if Roberts presides.
This is all about politics and hate. There is no need to try and spin this as something it’s not.
The world is going to see another partisan leftist clown. And putin and china are cheering the left on for doing exactly what they wanted.
I never in my life thought that the left would go this low. But here we are.
Most of the left is ready to burn the place down over hate. And their hate is not just for trump and his supporters. They are ready to go after and destroy anyone who does not agree with what they want.

There would have been no Trump if they weren’t jabbing at him awhile back at that dinner before he ran. Now they are jabbing at him again. Like you I was satisfied thinking we would have a new standard bearer then comes the announcement of wanting to legalize 7 million and I am like
here it comes again.

So they had a vote today and came no where close to getting the votes they need…
45 R’s voted with Rand Paul’s motion that the ignorant impeachment effort is UnConstitutional. All 50 should have voted with Senator Paul but what do you expect from Romney and Murkowski.
So I guess there’s going to be another fraud fake waste of time impeachment…the last time the clowns on the left pulled this needless garbage they missed the beginning of the pandemic.
Socialist Democrats are a danger to this country and to our freedom.

It’s a political trial.
We’re you in favor of the Clinton impeachment?
Same deal.

There was a vote on the constitutionality of the Clinton impeachment that demonstrated there was no way to get a conviction before it began? Huh, must have missed it.
Everyone knew the trial wasn’t going to convict Clinton.
Did you actually follow that impeachment?

Personally I am looking forward to the impeachment of FDR and Woodrow Wilson.
