That one is true.

Why does the house or senate need to pass anything? The president has already declared a national emergency and has many powers to address the crisis. Has he taken any action using these powers to address this crisis that relates to the treatment of the detainees?

None are so blind as those who will not see…

It’s the mindnumbingly stupid false choice of either we hold non criminal detainee children in squalor and neglect or we have complete open borders that is the most offensive response.

But it’s so easy for people in positions like the Border Patrol to fall into this behavior when you simply see those you detain is inhuman and criminals who are beneath your contempt. And the things we’re seeing them show that mindset very well.

You are correct. But remember, we haven’t “seen” anything. We have been told.

It needs to be investigated thoroughly and should have already been. Mueller is the perfect choice.

It seems to me there are huge logistical issues and the powers that be have simply given up.

if your answer is the parents shouldn’t have brought them here illegally i pray you never have to flee violence and persecution with your kids.

They aren’t being persecuted and their countries are not at war.

They are fleeing to, not from.

So very well put and you made my point far more eloquently.

This really shouldn’t boil down to whether or not you’re for open borders, or controlled immigration, or a wall, or no immigration at all, or whatever your stance. I’ll happily recognize that they can be considered illegal immigrants. What I won’t do is subscribe to the hysteria that they’re illegal invaders or terrorists or whatever inflammatory rhetoric people want to use. If our process is that they be detained awaiting their day in court at least have the decency to treat them as human ■■■■■■■ beings as they are. Give them their day in court. But don’t strip them of their pride. We as Americans should be better than what is presented. And this absolutely should be investigated.

Of course. That’s what politicians do.

The reason the bill ran into opposition was because it didn’t go far enough.

The moderate Democrats had begun to worry about the possibility of leaving Washington on Friday for a weeklong July 4 recess without having cleared the humanitarian aid, and some were balking at a funding reduction for Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

So why are so many Republicans in favor of reducing funding for ICE at such a critical time? The better solution given the reports of the inhumane conditions would be to increase it. Why keep this bad situation unresolved?

So you actually think an order saying to be nice would fix the problem? It would only bring out more ridicule by those who are using this problem. Fixes take money.

The president can use his emergency powers to procure whatever he wants address this humanitarian crisis.

I believe you have misread the article you have referenced. “Progressive” Democrats wanted to cut ICE funding and therefore increase illegal immigration, not Republicans. That is the agenda leftists wanted to attach to the bill.

Courts are already blocking “emergency funding” of a wall, and now you think emergency funding is the solution? No. Funding is the job of Congress…actually the House, initially.

The courts blocked funding for building a wall and suspending the environmental studies, they did not block funding that could be defended as addressing the humanitarian crisis at the border.
