The Democratic National Committee’s new criteria to qualify for its third presidential primary debate has stirred frustration among some campaigns, setting off a scramble to find ways to navigate the race this fall.
Some campaigns have begun discussing a coordinated push to persuade the DNC to tweak the qualifying requirements for the third debate, according to people familiar with the discussions.
Meanwhile, at least one campaign has started floating the possibility of an unofficial debate for the candidates who do not qualify for the third DNC debate in September — a potentially risky undertaking given that DNC rules prohibit candidates who participate in unsanctioned debates from appearing in official debates.
The DNC is set to hold its first debate on June 26. To qualify for that debate, candidates need to secure at least 1 percent in three polls from designated outlets or collect contributions from 65,000 unique donors, including at least 200 donors from 20 different states. (H/T The Hill)

Biden is currently the front-runner among the 24 candidates seeking the Democratic nomination but has seen his lead shrink recently.
A Saturday Des Moines Register–CNN poll, for example, has Biden at 24 percent support, with Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) at 16 percent, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) at 15 percent and South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg (D) at 14 percent.
4:30 PM ET – Joe Concha, host of his own evening show on WOR and a columnist for the Hill, goes over the Sunday shows today with us. One of the more interesting aspects from the weekend was Joe Biden’s bracelet proclaiming Barack Obama as his best friend.
5:05 PM ET – Kerry Picket, an investigative reporter for kerrypicket.com, was in the room today for more talk of impeachment from Rep. Nadler.
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler announced Monday afternoon that the Justice Department reached an agreement with his Committee over getting key evidence in the Mueller Report related to “possible obstruction of justice by President Trump.”
A criminal contempt vote was originally scheduled for Tuesday against Attorney General Bill Barr, but following the agreement. According to the Chairman, all members of the Judiciary Committee, both Democrats and Republicans will be able to view the evidence and, as of now, a criminal contempt charge against Barr will be held off.
The criminal contempt vote was originally scheduled for Tuesday. “I am pleased to announce that the Department of Justice has agreed to begin complying with our committee’s subpoena by opening Robert Mueller’s most important files to us, providing us with key evidence that the Special Counsel used to assess whether the President and others obstructed justice or were engaged in other misconduct. The Department will share the first of these documents with us later today,” Nadler said in a statement.
5:30 PM ET – Investigative journalists Ann McElhinney and Phelim McAleer are here to talk about a new film they have been working on based on the true story behind Lisa Page and Peter Strzok. With all the Trump hating organizations, events, movies, speeches and plays you would think that the theatres would be open to allowing at least one diverse thought into the mix. Well, Phelim and Ann are here to tell you it’s not the case and that they have lost theatres and showcases because they want to show alternative positions and schools of thought.
Describing it as “a victory for artistic freedom,” playwright Phelim McAleer has announced that the FBI Lovebirds: UnderCovers play has found a new venue in Washington, D.C. The staged reading and filming were put in jeopardy last week after the Studio/Mead Theater, canceled the controversial event citing “security concerns.”
The play will now take place in the amphitheater at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center on June 13th, the original date of the performance. The venue, at 1300 Pennsylvania Ave NW, Washington, DC 20004, is located just a few blocks from the White House.
FBI Lovebirds: UnderCovers is a dramatized staged reading of text messages between Trump-nemesis and senior FBI Agent Peter Strzok and his lover and fellow FBI Agent, Lisa Page, and their subsequent interrogation by a congressional committee. Dean Cain (Gosnell, Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman) and Kristy Swanson (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Pretty in Pink) are set to play Strzok and Page.
Politico described the play as “Hamilton for the Make America Great Again crowd.”
