Federal prosecutors appear to be close to a decision on whether to charge former FBI official Andrew McCabe over the circumstances that led to his firing from the bureau last year, Fox News has learned.
A source close to the process said that McCabe has had a “target on his back” because of the Justice Department inspector general findings against him over actions during the Hillary Clinton email investigation, as well as his role in the surveillance warrants against Trump campaign associates during the Russia investigation. McCabe is a former deputy and acting director of the FBI.
The New York Times, which first reported the developments Monday, said McCabe’s lawyers recently met with DOJ attorneys who would handle a prosecution – an indication of a possible indictment.
McCabe’s legal team and the Justice Department declined to comment.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office in D.C. has not responded to a Fox News request for comment.

A new Monmouth poll out yesterday showed Joe Biden in third place at 19 percent, a point behind Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, both at 20 percent. It is the first poll that has shown him as anything but a strong frontrunner.
Now, the poll had a small sample size and large margin of error. It may well be an outlier. A CNN poll just last week had Biden doubling the numbers of both far-left senators. But it is nonetheless telling.
Biden lost support among moderate and conservative Democrats, who switched their allegiance to the more overtly socialist septuagenarians. A likely explanation for this shift is that those moderates don’t see Biden as substantially different from Warren and Sanders anymore, because thus far he has basically presented himself as a progressive.

Luck was played all seven years of his professional career with the Indianapolis Colts of the National Football League.
Andrew Luck’s decision to retire from the NFL followed by Indianapolis Colts fans booing the quarterback over the weekend spurred emotional reactions from players around the league Monday.
Luck, 29, announced his retirement Saturday after the Colts’ preseason game against the Chicago Bears. However, ESPN’s report of his decision broke during the game, which led to fans booing the quarterback as he left Lucas Oil Stadium potentially for the final time.
Green Bay Packers star Aaron Rodgers called the report and the reaction “disgusting.”
