I bet this happens soon

Things are moving fast. NCAA already giving in and drafting policy to let players market themselves for $$$ without losing eligibility. Small market teams are going to have recruiting problems.

NCAA Drafting Player Pay Policy

I’ll have to assume there’s going to be some sort of caps? Otherwise, richest schools get the best athletes, and the whole rotten thing collapses.

Maybe end up with a “pro” league made up of the elite schools and an “amateur” league made from the rest.

It sucks.

Sports brings a lot of money into high schools, it gets alumni to open wallets for things like fields and sport equipment and training facilities.

Only football and basketball do. Most if not all of the other sports are likely losing economically.

thats true for college too, so the point is… what exactly?

The total number of available athletes wont change for one and the top level athletes were never going to the smaller schools anyhow. The average level college athletes pretty much know they have virtually no shot making it to the pros and will be by and large be happy with just getting a free ride at a university. What’s going to happen is that the top level athletes, many of whom who have a legit shot at making it to the pros will start earning money sooner. Basically this will be an opportunity for those who are going to get rich playing pro ball to build upon that wealth sooner.

Actually I misread the post as I thought he was talking about college. :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

The University of Texas has roughly twenty or so billionaire boosters battling for control of that football program. They’re absolutely salivating at the prospect of said collapse.

Hmmm…good point.
