“He is bringing it to a vote knowing it will fail in a dumb effort to shame the GOP… the GOP has no shame so it will fail.”

The idea that patriots should vote for legislation that will almost certainly guarantee a perpetual one party socialist state is very CCP-propaganda-esque. IMO

The idea that you get to adjudicate what it means to be patriotic is up there with Biden deciding who isn’t black.

Where was the filibuster? I dont recall that happening.

I do recall McConnel refusing to bring it to the floor for a vote. That’s politics. Just like Harry Reid going on about Romneys taxes.

It’s almost like someone is threatening Schumer to DO SOMETHING OR ELSE.

It went a little beyond politics. But it’s ok i am happy with Gorasuch and Kavanaugh.

PATRIOTIC: having or expressing devotion to and vigorous support for one’s country.

Why are you concerned about a filibuster? Nobody is doing away with the cloture vote, and the big Biden bills will likely not get beyond that. There will probably not even be a filibuster.

That is exactly what will happen

There was no filibuster for any of Trump’s picks for the Supreme Court because the Republican’s changed the rules to only need 50 votes and not 60.

Why do you all keep bringing that up when you know Reid did away with the judicial filibuster and only left it for the Supreme Court because there was never a case for Democrats to use the nuclear option on a Supreme Court nomination? Surely you realize everyone knows this by now.

Reid did away with it for lower court picks and McConnell did away with for Supreme Court picks. So what’s the point?

The point is Reid did away with the judicial filibuster. If Democrats were to make an “exception” to get rid of the filibuster for voting related bills only, that would be a pretense. They would have defacto done away with the legislative filibuster. That is what Reid did with the judicial filibuster.

I knew when Reid did that it would come back to bite them but Reid wasn’t looking that far ahead.

That’s why I support Manchin and Sinema now, but I also have no doubt that McConnell will end the legislative filibuster the next time he is in power with a Republican President.

Yes you are defining to whom that adjective is applicable. It’s ok though it’s apparently only within the purview of the right.

McConnell signed the letter in 2017 supporting the legislative filibuster when it would have been to the benefit of Republicans to get rid of it. So did Schumer. Only one was inconsistent.

We shall see if he remains consistent when he and Trump are both back in power.

How would such legislation guarantee perpetual one party socialist state?

It won’t take all Republicans to keep the filibuster if/when they are a majority. A couple of Democrats is all it is taking now to,keep the filibuster. Think Collins, Romney and several others.
You can be sure all the Democrats who now see the filibuster as the enemy of democracy will once again see it as the protector of the minority.
