This is the “Religion” Forum. That’s why I posted this story here. It has to do with “right & wrong” & Christians following the teachings of the Bible.

It isn’t & never has been the responsibility of the government to take care of the poor. President Reagan told how it’s bad when you answer your doorbell & it’s the government saying “I’m here to help you”. I’d say that’s the time to run myself.

Now getting back to this story. It has always been the responsibility of the church to take care of the poor & never government. Government does one thing very well. It screws up everything it touches.

Scenario: a high school kid gets on the football team. Like all loving mothers, his mother says, “be careful son”. Like all loving sons, the son says, “I’ll be fine”.

After practice the kid goes to the locker room to find that his street clothes are gone & the clothes of another are there. The kid asks the coach about it. The coach replies “I made a new rule today”. “Each player can help himself to the clothes of another if they’re better”.

The kid calls home to tell his parents. “Mom this is what happened” & tells her about it. Mom says “son you must be kidding, the school wouldn’t take your new school clothes I bought you”.

Mom “what clothes are you wearing now”? Son “I’m wearing some raggedy clothes of another”. Mom “what about the new, expensive underwear I bought you”? Mom “they left me some underwear with hashmarks”.

Two things usually you get a list of supplies to buy with name brands besides them. That is what happened when my nephew was a grade school. The teacher sent out shopping lists. I took the lists and bought from that.

Sorry the other thing I read in the blog is if their was any anxiety over items being placed in the supply buckets let the kid keep it.

A religious forum where you do nothing but bash the government.

Seems contradictory to the bible advice to Christians.

Romans 13:1 Let every person be in subjection to the superior authorities, for there is no authority except by God; the existing authorities stand placed in their relative positions by God. 2 Therefore, whoever opposes the authority has taken a stand against the arrangement of God; those who have taken a stand against it will bring judgment against themselves.

Tituss 3:1 Continue reminding them to be in subjection and to be obedient to governments and authorities, to be ready for every good work, 2 to speak injuriously of no one, not to be quarrelsome, but to be reasonable, displaying all mildness toward all men.

1 Peter 2:13 For the Lord’s sake subject yourselves to every human creation, whether to a king as being superior 14 or to governors as sent by him to punish wrongdoers but to praise those who do good. 15 For it is the will of God that by doing good you may silence the ignorant talk of unreasonable men. 16 Be as free people, using your freedom, not as a cover for doing wrong, but as slaves of God.

If you want to talk the role of government and what it will provide I will be happy to show how the coming government promised in the bible will deal with everything from housing to healthcare.

Two things usually you get a list of supplies to buy with name brands besides them. That is what happened when my nephew was a grade school. The teacher sent out shopping lists. I took the lists and bought from that.

I took a look at some school supply lists at my local Walmart yesterday.

For Kindergarten, it clearly stated that the supplies being brought would be shared with others. It included stuff like tissues.

Once they got into first grade, I no longer saw the word “sharing” by any of the supplies. So, in Cheyenne at least, apparently this practice is only for kindergarten.

That has never, ever happened in the US - unless it was by kids bullying other kids.

And it’s not the same as kindergarten kids bringing in $5 worth of school supplies to share with others - and all kids use the same supplies. Some kids aren’t forced to use blunted crayons while others get sharp crayons,etc…

Actually, we’ve really gotten off track from the original point of the thread. In a nutshell it was this: “Some things happen in public school that are less likely to happen in a faith-based school. Therefore I’m glad my kid/grandkid/niece/nephew goes to a faith-based school…”

I understand now. No, that business of everyone bring supplies your parents bought with their own money front & center to be equally distributed—did the students ever get to take any supplies home at the end of the school day?—is pretty stupid.

It’s like some say forced donations aren’t charity. Seems there is a more constructive way to teach voluntary sharing so everyone in the class has an equal opportunity to learn, taking notes, etc.

I know the school districts here have voluntary efforts for students to donate stuff like clothing & winter clothes that no longer fit. Perhaps a voluntary drive to share or donate school supplies is an idea.

Equal opportunity doesn’t mean equal outcome, but a chance would be there for everyone.

Actually it did at a high school in another MA town, & it did involve girls bullying one. Girl’s clothes were taken while she was in the shower after gym class, & she was left with her towel.

Thingis, guy who was supposed to be the Principal sided WITH the offending students, saying they couldn’t prove those clothes belonged to the bullied girl. Was he implying mom sent her daughter to school in a shower towel & flip flops?

Safiel’s right. Some American school districts are embracing stupidity, while others are more no nonsense.

Even if only some of it is taken from you and you only get back a portion of it, the part you did not get back was STOLEN from you. and that’s EXACTLY what was described in the OP. And if I hacked into your bank account and took only 5% of it and gave it to a homeless guy, I would be stealing it from you – no matter the intentions behind my actions.

I never said you would have nothing left. I know what I said. I also know that you have seen my clarification after your misunderstanding of my statement. If you continue to project “nothing-left” into my statement moving forward, it would be a deliberate lie.
