Rep. Steve Scalise urged his congressional Democratic colleagues to tone-down their outrageous calls for violence Thursday; warning the protests and confrontations with GOP politicians across the country pose a “direct threat” to American democracy.

Scalise -who was critically injured when a lone gunman opened fire during a congressional baseball practice- called-out Rep. Maxine Waters and former Attorney General Eric Holder for inciting “anger, harassment, and violence.”

“Despite the continued reports of politically motivated threats or violence, Democratic Party leaders have worked to keep this anger burning and incite even more harassment and violence,” writes Scalise.

“Beginning with my own near-death experience at the hands of a deranged shooter who sought to assassinate a baseball field of Republicans, there is a growing list of violent or threatening actions taken against conservatives by Democrats,” he adds.

“If this is going to stop, it must start with Democratic leaders, who need to condemn, rather than promote these dangerous calls to action,” Scalise says.
