To the hundreds of thousands of people who weren’t paid during that time, those that missed car, electricity, gas, education payments. That’s not why it shut down.

Take your pick. Government workers not being paid. National parks in disarray. Immigration cases delayed in court. Airport terminals were shut down. FDA wasn’t able to inspect food at the same level. 5,000 FBI agents were furloughed. FOIA requests were halted. NTSB investigation put on hold. The E-Verify system was shut down.

And yes, that is why it was shut down. Trump’s ego. He lied about who was paying for the wall. And when actual adults wouldn’t play his game, he held the government hostage.

Even if only temporary, it was undue hardship that was placed upon those people for no other reason than politics.
