This day and age, one should be fully aware of the potential for vitriol and threats before they ever throw their hat into the ring. Its not like we don’t all know that occurs and has occurred for many years.

I have a theory that the conservative brain has less ability to empathize with others that are outside their immediate circle. Only when they are effected directly does the light turn on.

This thread and attitudes toward therapy reinforce that theory. As I related in the past, my neighbor is a conservative who stood against any form of socialized healthcare. Then, when his mother in law moved in and broke her wrist, he faced many thousands of dollars of costs. Or, he could fly her to her country of origin where the cost would have been in the hundreds of dollars. He started coming around then.
