Russia/Ukraine, what's the likely outcome, and how long will it take?

I could be wrong but I think the NATO membership thing is going to be and instant no from Russia not to mention all members have to vote yes (I Think).

It’s not hard seeing a situation where at minimum Turkey and Hungary would be a no vote. Also while it might excite some seeing them invited to NATO its quiet possibly a powder keg for a future war with Russia.

Still it’s good to see talks about a ceasefire or ending the war, I hope they can figure something out.

and as I have been saying for the past year, Trump is a gamble for Ukraine, he is also Ukraine’s ONLY chance to win. With Biden they had NO CHANCE. Slow walking aid and making sure Ukraine had just enough to not lose but never enough to win can only result in Ukraine losing… slowly, and painfully.

Turkey has already said yes

its the only guarantee of not having another war with Russia.

whether Ukraine joins NATO or not is none of Russia’s business. They don’t get a vote

No they haven’t.

Besides Russia does have a place they can complain to. They rejoin the PFP program and the NATO-Russia council and they have a place to lodge complaints.

yes he has

Note the date on your link vs. mine.

meaningless. Erdogan has already said yes, its a yes. He will try to wring out a pound of flesh, but that’s just Erdogan.

They’ll pay him a bunch of money, subsidies, and free Leopard II tanks and he will sign the final paperwork. He did the same thing with Sweden and Finland’s applications.

It’s not at all meaningless, there has never been a vote and there won’t be until Ukraine meets all the requirements for membership. He said “deserves” in July '23 and said “not so fast” this last September. He changed his mind apparently. And if and when an actual vote comes up, who knows how they will vote. Turkey is always a wildcard … They should never have been allowed in.

nah, just changed the price

They are only in NATO because of the Dardenelles. Take that away from them and they would get kicked out immediately.

Regardless, his “yes” is not worth the paper that it was not written on.

its a yes, it will remain a yes, he’ll just expect something for the effort

Just stop. There has been no vote because there has been no application. Nobody has said yes.

he said yes. the only one who has not is orban.

He also … more recently … said otherwise.

Not that it matters. Ukraine is in no position to apply for NATO membership.

I don’t believe there is a guarantee to be had for no future wars with Russia.

Ukraine got help from USA and being in NATO Ukraine wouldn’t be in a better situation.
What would NATO do better than USA, nothing.

Actualy depending on NATO only is worse.
I don’t see why being a member was so important.

I think Russians will keep the occupied land and all Trump can do is threaten Russia into stopping the fight for more.
