RFK is an idiot

I have to disagree.

You even say they have dead heart muscle.

Those are pretty bad alcoholics that get Cardiomyopathy, in general mild to moderate alcohol use has no effect on heart muscle. And it keeps the coronaries cleaner. It does so in a few ways, it raises “good” cholesterol and it suppresses the amygdala, which is primarily the source of the sympathetic nervous system. The SNS is primarily responsible for increasing heart rate, blood pressure and inflammation. Plus, alcohol tends to limit clotting, the primary mechanism for most stroke and heart attack.

Of course, alcohol can lead to some cancers being more frequent or in large doses, liver damage and heart failure. But in general, mild to moderate alcohol consumption provides more benefit than risk. The key is moderation, of course. Some folks cannot drink and should not drink, it is not for everyone.

And I can honestly say even tobacco is not a blanket risk. In moderation. Classic example, I had a 90 year old patient who had a catheterization of her heart and was found to have clean coronaries. I visited her room and she was upset. I asked her why since the finding were so good. She said she had smoked 1 cigarette every morning with her coffee for 70 years and the Nurse just told her she needed to quit. I told her “smoke one at dinner as well, if you like, don’t worry about that”.

Excess is the problem. In all things moderation. And in medicine the two banned words are “always” and “never”.

Thank you for this post. I’m going to show it to my wife. :tumbler_glass: :+1:

These people are just so stupid and creepy and outrage-ridden.

There is no ■■■■■■■ “War on Protein”

Here is the old My Plate recommendations from the FDA

There is protein, right there…on the plate…

What a war!

Everything has to be a confrontation.

I love it when my government recommends I have a surf and turf dinner. Ahhhhhhhhh… :tumbler_glass:

Look at how the frail weirdos get upset over people eating better.

To be fair, you guys were pretty awful when Michelle Obama really emphasized the exact same thing. It was partisan then and it is partisan now. You guys were blasting her for actually putting a veggie garden at the White House, which seems like a really good idea to me. Be an example of eating healthier and fresher foods. Hell, she tried to lower the amount of processed foods being given to school kids and you guys lost it there, too. “Where are the chicken fingers?”, “Kids won’t like vegetables, this is stupid!”

And it was all because you simply didn’t like her or her Husband, maybe hate? Dunno.

So it is a bit hypocritical to call out Libs for faulting an ex-heroin addict, conspiracy theory addled, vaccine denying loonie loon who happens to be right about a few things, like this.

And just to be clear, no one is complaining about eating healthy. We’re poking fun at a meme that the White House put out suggesting there was a war on protein. There wasn’t.

So many posts here about how big kids would never get filled up on healthy food for school lunch…

Side note - it’s funny how we’re allowed to call each other names as long as we don’t quote a post directly.

That is around 61-65 grams of protein, by the way, depending on the broth. A nice start to the day.

In other words, your side is butthurt because your side failed.

Here’s why nobody takes you people seriously anymore.

I know that this is Dr. Levine, but aside from being transgender, was Dr. Levine qualified to be Assistant Secretary of Health? Associated with Harvard Medical school, Johns Hopkins faculty, served as Surgeon General of Pennsylvania. I get you guys just don’t like transgendered people but if they are qualified for the job, it shouldn’t be used as a barrier either.

What on earth did RFK ever do to deserve his role? Never went to medical school, never served in public health before. He was an environmental lawyer before this, for the most part.

For starters, he did everything better than you, the doctor who wasn’t even honest enough to admit that Biden is demented.

In addition, hardly anyone ever needed the drugs you peddled. They just needed someone with adequate knowledge in nutrition. Doctors are pretty worthless when it comes to daily health.

I actually forgot how nasty you are to converse with, always making it personal.

Mea Culpa. My mistake.

I won’t be able respond further because I am adding you to ignore. And I am just saying that because I don’t want you to think I am being rude by not responding to your further barbs, I simply won’t be able to see them.

Have a good one, mate.

As long as it’s tofu, beans, peanut butter or something else besides the best source of it: beef.

I have a short fuse for habitually dishonest people. You made the right choice.

Wasn’t she trying to substitute the normal trash they eat with bean sprouts and chia seeds or something like that? It ended up being like 300 calories per meal, something like a gulag prisoner would get. If her recommendations were for 1/2 pound of beef, pork, and then veggies added to it that would have been different.
