Retiring - stay in USA or go to other country

That’s what I meant. lol

Having lived in foreign countries with my father and when I was in the Air Force, I can’t conceive of living anywhere else but here in the great US of A.

Its all about family for me as well. My job took me to various parts of this great country, but we always knew we would move back to my wife’s home when I retired. We are now retired and have made that move.

I could happily live in France or Italy. They actually feel freer than here to me. And I don’t really care if they are more socialist then we are, as they don’t have our constitution and if I was retired I wouldn’t get hit that hard with their higher tax rates. They aren’t as heavily policed as we are.

I’ve heard a lot of great things about Belize. The few people I know that have been there had nothing but good things to say.

No snow or cold weather. Being able to enjoy outdoor is important. That’s why most senior are in az or fl.

That’s not easy. I live in Chicago area. I told my kids to move away when they grow up. Cost of living is insane here. It’s not worth it. Maybe tx or nc would be better. Also My money would last twice as long outside USA. It sucks but that’s the truth.

Ok. South of USA. How about that? :innocent:

Just remember, “been there” and “living there” are two entirely different things.

Portugal isn’t. It’s in Europe.

You want to watch out retiring to tropical type countries, a whole lot of diseases we aren’t accustomed to and no, there aren’t vaccines for all of them.

Been to lots of places. I’d take anywhere in the United States (yes even Alaska) over them.

USA! USA!

Why “even” Alaska? Gorgeous state.

Cold…ouch…and I’d still take over a foreign country.

Not much colder then the northeast corridor really if you live near the coast like most of them do, ocean keeps it warm. Interior is a different story. Side note, I am not an Alaskan resident, just like to go up there and steal their fish sometimes.

Then when your children take your advice and move away, look to see which ones provide you the most grandchildren and I’d consider moving there? You’ll come to find at that time, that this motivation is greater then, than what you’re perceiving today.

It depends. Do you want to be near your grand kids or adult kids to see them everyday? Maybe. Or I can come visit a few times a year. And let me live my golden years where I want.

I highly suggest you don’t try to live in Central or South America.

In time, what I’ve suggested and you’re suggesting may become one and the same. I think you’ll find that things that seem important today, become less important tomorrow and visa versa. Either way, I wish you well and hope you find that happiness you’ve earned after paying your dues in the workplace.
