Right, which is why the quid pro quo being asked for was a public announcement that there would be investigations and not actual investigations. Because it was really about justice lol.

How is that relevant to the question of whether the president attempted to extort a public announcement of an investigation from Ukraine in return for military aid?

It is relevant as to whether there was a reasonable basis for an investigation to be requested.
If he wasn’t hired to do work, what was he hired for?

Let’s assume something illegal happened… a violation of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act for example. Wouldn’t this be the first time in US history that the initial investigation of a violation of the FCPA was conducted by the President himself? Why would that new protocol be required in this matter? If the case was so egregious, why wasn’t standard protocol followed?

And why wouldn’t we be investigating it ourselves?

Any Republican witness has to be approved by the Democratic majority (following rules Republicans put in place when they had the majority in 2015.

Personally, I hope the Democrats approve the entire list.

And then I hope every one of the witnesses refuses to appear.

Then there can be a negotiation: if Democratic called witnesses who are refusing to appear change their stance, the Republican called witnesses will all appear. But if witnesses for one side have the freedom to absent themselves, then that freedom should be extended to all.

That would be ridiculous and not serve the Dems. The Circus would just have all monkeys and no lions. Theres no reason to have Hunter Biden or any of those witnesses except the Whistleblower

You do… and our FBI and DOJ conduct dozens of FCPA violations investigations every year in countries all over the world. So back to the original question, why wouldn’t our DOJ conduct an investigation for violations of the FCPA instead of relying on an investigation in Ukraine? Are you expecting Hunter to be tried in Ukraine?

Really hung up on this announcement language.

Do you really think this applies more to an election a year out with no guarantee of Biden being involved rather than the past administration that spied on Trump and Muellered him and claimed to be so corruption pure?

While both are considerations, I would say the role of the former VP is the dominant matter.

The same VP that prevented the Ukraine from getting top grade military hardware and was on duty when the Crimea WAS annexed.

I wish we had had this level of outrage at that time.

I don’t know where you were but there was plenty of outrage, and we kicked out like three dozen Russian diplomats and enacted the strictest sanctions since the Soviet Union.

Defendants frequently take the stand in their own defense. They seldom appear as witnesses for the prosecution!
