Republican Health Care Plan

My marriage was falling apart at the time.

It was more of an emotional thing.

I wouldn’t do it again nor recommend that course for anyone.

Sad part is, the GOP already had a great idea that Obama co-opted into the ACA. Since he stole their idea and they reflexively called it socialism they have to go even more free market, and the only option left at that point is catastrophic and HSAs.

They shouldn’t have accused him of socialism but of plagiarism.

The premium would be covered through a sales tax, everyone would pay in, even the retired and kids. Even the unemployed. Even businesses. 2 or 3 cents would probably be more than enough.

Okay it looks like we would need about a 4 percent sales tax to generate 300-400 billion dollars, which would cover the catastrophic costs. Just looked it up. Not too horrible.

On top of the 6% that I already pay?

Yep. But it would eliminate all workplace insurance and the money you probably dump into that. It all washes out in the end.

You can further lower costs by tying it all to lowered drug costs. If the US is the sole guarantor/insurer except for advantage programs it can negotiate drug costs which would help keep overall costs down. The VA already does this, use their model.

Tort reform can be added to a GOP plan as well. Base tort models on existing vaccine boards, the patient can appeal to a specific board who can assess the patient’s needs and initiate immediate and long term relief without extensive legal wrangling.

Doing so would lower defensive medicine costs, which again would help the system as a whole.

Again, not my ideal model, just what I consider to be a workable Conservative model.

You think individuals would form groups with the same bargaining savvy and size as employers? Really?

You’re not thinking outside the box. What could be easier than having millions of strangers try to form groups in order to negotiate health insurance costs?

Of course. Around here, it is hard to tell, isn’t it?

Well this I gotta see. I’m still waiting for him to fulfill his first “I’ve got a plan” that was a part of getting elected?

Sure why not? Groups form all the time, and are not organized by people who employ others. Also, Sounds like you think regular people are stupid.

It would be called a union… lol!

Because that leads to adverse selection.

In my group, we kick out all the sickies. Keeps our rates low. Makes the rates unaffordable for anyone who actually needs it.

Terrible plan.

Large corporations employ actuarial experts to achieve these aims. Don’t put words in my mouth – “regular people are stupid”. Regular people don’t have the expertise. Clear difference.

And how does having informal groups of people banding together to gather insurance improve our current health care system exactly? This started with critic saying individuals could negotiate better prices and me saying, how would they compete with the volume discounts that employers get and he saying, they’ll band together informally. How is this progress.

Republicans are so stupid.

My plan would help lower the cost of health care, thus making providing for those who chose not to get insurance cheaper too.

And Of course dems would never pick a plan that didn’t provide for those in need just becasue it was expensive. Right?

Those groups can employ actuarial experts to achieve these aims. Who said it was informal? They have groups like this already. It’s works.

Norway is just a group of 4 million people. You can volunteer to be in a health commune, if you want too, also…

There isn’t anything here that would lower any costs.

There never is.
