A bombshell new report from NBC News published over the weekend reveals Sen. Kamala Harris retained a tax-payer funded security detail provided by the Los Angeles Police Department even while traveling to other cities throughout the state.

“Armed, plain-clothes LAPD officers were dispatched to California cities outside of Los Angeles at least a dozen times to provide security for U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris at public events, media appearances, and a party,” reports NBC.

The report shows Los Angeles tax-payers paid for air travel, hotel accommodations, vehicle rentals, pricey meals, and other expenses while protecting the potential 2020 candidate.

The total bill -without police overtime pay- came in at approximately $28,000.

“Between January 2017 and July 2018 the records show LAPD officers flew to San Francisco at least seven times, including a trip in April 2017, when Harris gave TV interviews, a trip in March 2018 for a speech at a YMCA event, and a visit in June 2018, to escort Harris to the San Francisco Pride parade, where LAPD officers were visible in video and pictures captured along the parade route,” adds the report.

What bombshell?

She needs to pay it back.

Why?
She did not request it.
“Since she became a protectee more than a decade ago, Senator Harris has always deferred to public safety experts on procedures, protocols and determinations,” said Harris’ communications director Lily Adams. “Our office did not request or question LAPD’s decision to provide protection and we are grateful for the ongoing work of officers in Los Angeles and across the state who risk their lives to keep all Californians safe,” she said."

Go to the lin, that has all the info.
Not sure why that paragraph was not included in this bombshell.

hmmm…

Exactly. That is why I asked “what bombshell”? I read the article and saw no bombshell in there.

Absolutely. If you are a Senator and a city not connected with federal security starts heaping services on you for free, why would you even question that? Who would ever guess that it would be illegal for a city government to provide gifts to a Senator?
I mean, she is only an attorney and a Senator…how is she supposed to know about such things?

Administrator is getting desperate.

I’m outraged, but I don’t know why.

She liked the perk that garcetti was giving himself. Just another status symbol for crooked politicians. “I’ve got a security detail”.

She enjoys no leadership position, and for the life of me I can’t figure out why she would have been a “protectee” for the past 10 years.

Nice throw in about the police “keeping all Californians safe”. As if everyone gets their own detail.

Pay it back.

What gifts?

The gift of free services, obviously. No different than if they had given her the money to hire a private security.

What then of the illegal “gifts” the city of New York gave to Melania Trump, via security details, when she didn’t move to the White House until Baron was out of school?

They were authorized. That was right in the OP’s linked article. So they were not a gift.

Bombshell?

Somebody needs to go nuclear on this.

If they were providing security within the city of NY, then that is what they do. It is not gift, it is their job. If they went with her and provided free security in Wash DC, then yes, that would be free gifts…and you would be duly outraged.

Why isn’t the OP all up in arms over what the people of the city of New York had to pay for the gifts to First Lady Melania Trump? At $127,000 to $146,000 a day for the 142 days she remained in Trump tower that is well more than $18 million in gifts.

Talk about a real bombshell.

But it is a gift. She wasn’t even an elected official and neither was Baron.

I doubt very much that the charter of the LAPD provides for providing security to people statewide. Someone my have given the go ahead, but legally authorized? No, that was not in the article.

You aren’t being serious now. Do the police in your city protect you when you are in the city? If not, then what are they there for?
Do they protect you when you are no longer under their jurisdiction? Then…hi Kamala.

In what city is Trump Tower?
