Reperations questions

No one alive has any legal, moral or financial responsibility for that … and I’m fine with that.

As for the mention of victims, you cannot separate the ideology that demands reparations because of victim status from the reparations.

Didnt someone say that black people are lucky to be born here?

Fair point. But who pays for the dead African’s who labored on U.S. soil before there was a U.S? The government of the United states inherited a slave system set up by the European powers. Even though we inherited it, we are still guilty as hell. Even if the European powers are not willing to pay reparations, maybe they should simply apologize? Nobody holds them the least bit accountable. They did their evil and walked away unscathed as if it never happen. That just rubs me the wrong way.

Not only black people, but white, Asian, Hispanic or whatever. We have all won life’s lottery. The poorest American’s are still among the richest people in the world. Don’t you agree?

Again why are you fabricating the truth

So your response to something I didn’t mention is another lie? That being affected and being afflicted are the same?

I said nothing about if anyone ever had anything good in their life that would imply I expect people to bootstrap.

Here is reality: after the Civil War the South was full of dirt poor white and black people.

Out of these only a small percentage of either “bootstrapped” themselves anything.

The REAL oppression and opposition that blacks back then suffered didn’t stop the bootstrappers from succeeding.

And the whites? For all the advantages that they supposedly had these didn’t cause whites who were just doing what they’d always done to do anything but continue to get by in poverty, racism didn’t lift up one poor white (the odd corrupt politician-type aside, but that’s arguably just being the corrupt politician aspect).

If you’ve got the right stuff one generation is enough.

Same if you’ve got the wrong stuff: one generation can be enough there too, it just depends on how wrong is the wrong stuff you’ve got.

Right now the exact same dynamic is at work. People of any description who just keep doing what they’ve been doing to get by will more or less just get by.

And people who will bootstrap do bootstrap.

Those who never succeed don’t invalidate the idea of bootstrapping just because it didn’t apply to them. Those who fail miserably don’t invalidate it. It only ever applied to the few who do.

And that’s right, proper and good.

Want some facts? Alrighty then. Tens of millions of people are trying to get into the U.S. Many of them black. Why would they do that? Nobody is warning them not to come due to poor conditions. On the other hand. There is no flood of people leaving the U.S. Everybody wants in. Very few want out. Hell, even ISIS brides want to come back! :smirk: The simple truth. Why do you suppose this is true?

As I said before. I work with many West African immigrants. They are all tickled pink to be here. Happy every day. None of them are wishing that they had chosen a different country. :us:

All this reparations talk is, is leftists seeking to destroy American culture and government, so they can replace it with their stupid socialist Utopian dream.

It is vote buying that they don’t expect to really have to pay for.

True. The DNC is obsessed with dividing America as much as they possibly can. They don’t even bother to disguise the attempt anymore.

The time for reparations was in the aftermath of the Civil War. Slave owners should have had every square acre of their property confiscated and given to the newly freed slaves. That would have been justice.

Now? It’s too late for reparations. No matter how you look at it you are punishing people for the actions of their ancestors. It implies there is some guilt.

There is no guilt anymore. The US government ■■■■■■ up by not fixing this problem after the Civil War ended. We have to live with the consequences.

Reparations would do more harm to race relations than they would solve.

Oh well…

It’s just says that if we wait long enough… our atrocities can be swept under the rug.

Why can’t it happen? Waive my federal taxes. Not charging you anything.

Why is the notion of paying for slavery and issue that divides America?

No doubt. Forcing people who were not slave owners to pay people who were not slaves is idiotic. There is a reason why we don’t hold Stalin’s ancestors responsible for his mass murder. Because they did nothing wrong.

I’m not saying that.

I’m simply saying that we are on a delicate boat in America. My girlfriend (who is white) and I still get funny looks in places. In 2019.

There’s a balance. I honestly don’t think the country could handle a national reparations scheme today when we are fairly distantly removed from it.

Whites and blacks can barely talk about race as it stands. Throw reparations into the mix and it would get worse.

Because no matter how you swing it implies that modern people have something to feel guilty about.

My father is black and my mother is white. I’m the descendant of slaves and slave owners in the extended family tree; my white grandmother is the direct descendant of slave owners. I don’t feel like America owes me anything.

It just is what it is. The US government should feel shame that it abandoned free blacks and didn’t make things right during reconstruction.

But are we really willing to test this country in such a matter with something that cuts so deep? Do you honestly believe America and her institutions could handle this?

I don’t. I don’t think we are ready to even entertain a serious push for something like this.

This thought is the exact reason why we haven’t done anything yet.

“We just freed them, if we pay them, do you think America can handle it? Things are delicate now. We don’t want to cause further disruption”

“We just ended segregation. Do we really want to address reparations now? White Americans can barely handle having to drink from the same fountains”

At what point do we rip the bandaid off?

Waive federal taxes… no money out of your pocket.

However once the government has your money…it’s no longer yours.

You know my opinion. I feel like it’s too late and it’s not worth it. Even if it is just, I just don’t think it’s worth the trouble it would cause to race relations.
