Climate activists pushed for bans on Russian oil and gas back in February and March. I think they mistakenly believed that people would find that they don’t need fossil fuels. Conservation and clean renewables would magically appear to usher in a golden age.

Instead politicians are realizing that they risk economic collapse and elderly people freezing in their homes if they don’t find alternatives. The available alternatives include dirty fuels like coal and firewood.

Climate considerations are no longer the driving issue; stopping Putin in Ukraine is. Activists like Greta can’t complain about the change in priorities too directly or they risk being labeled traitors / Russian operatives.

I pointed out this flaw in the global warming thing a long time ago. How in the world can politicians who deliberately try and make their citizens poorer stay in office in a democracy? Either the democracy part goes or the people replace the leaders who go that route.
