Record day in the books with 3 US launches, 2 Space Coast rockets, 1 Space Coast tourist

At 6:29 am, ULA launched an Atlas V from SLC 41 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.

At 9:57 am, Blue Origin launched an a suborbital passenger flight from West Texas.

At 7:08 pm, SpaceX launched a Falcon 9 from SLC 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.

All three missions were totally successful.

Congratulations on a record space day.

I am amazed that Atlas rockets are still in use. I know the Atlas V is relatively new (20 years old) but the earliest Atlas rockets date back to the year I was born.

Kind of like the B52s of launch vehicles.

Delta and Atlas both have very ancient lineages.

Delta was originally derived from the PGM-17 Thor Intermediate Ballistic Missile which became operation in late 1957 and which was derived to become the Thor-Able rocket used between 1958 and 1960. In fact, the first Delta rocket was called the Thor-Delta, before the Thor was dropped.

The first Atlas missiles also launched in 1957.

Interestingly, both Atlas and Delta are in their final launches, to be replaced by the Vulcan rocket this decade.

And don’t forget the Titan family which lasted from 1959 to 2005.

Are we worried about carbon footprint?

I’m not.

It is a reasonable question with so much pushing of electric vehicles.

Don’t give them any ideas.
