Because like many Christians, they don’t want the government to enforce or punish people based on their personal religious beliefs.

What would you have Muslims and Republicans join together and do to the gay men?

In one sense I get what Janet is saying. Based on what she reads of Islam she finds them to be bigoted, anti-gay, and anti-abortion. It would make more sense that they would align themselves with the Republican Party which is generally anti-gay, anti-LGBTQ, and anti-abortion.

However, to shed a slightly different light on the subject, why would Muslims want to align themselves with a political party that has painted them as terrorists, actively sought to bar them from immigrating to the US, and essentially denigrated their religion for the past 2 decades?
