Outgoing Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel slammed President Trump on social media this week; saying his plans to curb “birthright citizenship” for non-residents was nothing more than “midterm election nonsense.”
Emanuel ripped the Commander-in-Chief just hours after Trump confirmed his administration was preparing an executive order to limit “birthright citizenship” for non-residents and non-citizens throughout the United States.
“Please. I know election season catnip when I see it. The President doesn’t have this authority, but he does have an interest in dividing the country and riling up his base. This is midterm election nonsense,” tweeted the Chicago mayor.
Rahm’s comments come in the wake of a deadly series of shootings that stunned Chicago over the Halloween weekend; injuring over 40 and leaving at least five residents dead in the nation’s third largest city.
